Introducing the Google Chrome OS

On 7 July 2009 Google announced its attempt to “re-think what operating systems should be”.

In a post on the official Google blog Google explains that the operating systems available today (eg. Microsoft’s Vista or Apple’s Mac OS X) were designed in an era when there was no web and that there is now a need for a version that is lightweight and secure for those who spend most of their time online.

Google Chrome OS will address that and will be available in 2010, initially targetting the netbook market. To read up more about Google Chrome OS read the About Chrome OS articles on this site starting from What is Google Chrome OS?

The following day a Google Chrome OS – FAQ was posted on the Google Chrome blog.
